For the uninitiated golfer, it is hard to imagine that Laurel Hill Golf Club used to be the site of an old prison. Yes, the 280-golf course sits on the huge 3000-acre site that was once Lorton Prison. And mind you, even until now you can see the old buildings, fences and bard wire of what once belonged to the correctional facility. If you'll look closely at the logo of the club, it uses a guard tower as part of its logo. 

What Laurel Hill Golf Club Offers

There are eight golf courses in the area, but Lauren Hill Golf Club is one of the most heavily traffic playgrounds in Northern Virginia. There isn't much pond or body of water in the golf course. But what it lacks in its fairly wide open holes is its undisputed length. The layout has a traditional design, but unlike older golf courses it runs a lengthy 7,102 yards from the back tees. The greens are lightning fast and undulating. Private golf clubs will always overshadow public ones. But come to think of it, private ones are no different from public ones when it comes to quality.

• At Laurel Hill Golf Club, you can play on your own schedule. This doesn't happen if you're a member of a private club. Even if the course is booked for a local tournament, non-participants are still given a go-to signal to play.
  

• If you’re not an avid golfer, there is virtually no reason to pay a monthly fee to play golf. When you do decide to play, you may not want to visit the same course that you have before. When you’re a member of a private club, you’ll feel obligated to play that course all the time.

The course was the brainchild of Bill Love who has more than 20 years of experience in golf course architecture. Love made a course that embraced the natural beauty of the property. His work was describe by golf aficonadoes as “one of a kind” and “visually stunning.”
